US based Nigerian player, Jeremiah Mordi said the world should expect surprises at Rio 2016 Olympic Basketball event. He stated while on a visit to Nigeria during the yuletide that he believed Nigeria would make
a marked improvement from the London 2012 Games.
While declaring that he would be grateful to have an opportunity to be a part of the squad if given an opportunity, Mordi stated.
“I am ready to give my contribution to the national team and if given an opportunity I am ready to make sacrifices to help get Nigeria to a podium finish.”
The Queens College senior guard said his desire to return to the country after acquiring experience was to assist develop the game in the country.
Mordi explained that the D’Tigers, who are current champions of Africa in basketball, needs more exposed players to win more laurels at world championships, adding that basketball would continue to grow in Nigeria if foreign–based players returned to the country to share their experience with their local counterparts.
Mordi also believed the Nigeria Basketball league has the capacity to rise to the NBA standard if the basic infrastructure were put in place, just as he posited that if African American players can shine in the NBA, Nigerian players also have the potential to do well. “After leaving Nigeria when I was five years old, I am now back to the country now that I am 23 years to play for Nigeria and develop the game. My target is to play for the Nigeria men’s basketball team in the Olympics.
“Getting the right training in all the age grade championships and my college experience has prepared me well for the challenges ahead. I can play in all departments if given the chance,” he said.
Mordi was named the All Met, Second Team, best player during his Queens College career.

player also became the 12th player in the Queens College basketball history to surpass the 1000-point plateau in his career. His best moment was when he finished with 1243 points, passing QC Hall of Famer Geoff
